Bespoke home office

When our client asked about converting an extra bedroom into a home office, they were clear that they wanted something special and unique. The space had to accommodate both desk work and contemplation time from their Ames chair. In today’s world of online video conferencing, the backdrop, lighting, and acoustics are all key considerations.

The Desk – Working with Wood From the Hood, we selected a slab of urban forested walnut, and turned it into a “River Table”. A waterfall edge (the downturned leg of the desk) adds more depth and beauty to what was already a work of art. The homeowner got to participate in the selection and placing of stones along with a precious keep-sake before the epoxy pour.

The Wall – Using the incredible talents of The Inside Wall artisan, the iron oxide and copper paste were applied to the walls, spritzed with a salt solution, allowed to rust and patina for 24 hours, before neutralizing and sealing the material. To complete the design, we used Friendly Wall walnut panels, which diverts wood from landfill by making use of small pieces. The panels create additional depth and texture.

To mitigate sound, hexagon felt panels were inconspicuously applied to the ceiling. Another subtle design element are the custom knurled brass knobs for the light switches. Another classy and tactile element that makes this a truly bespoke office.
