Home office retreat

A home office can and should be a thing of beauty. Using materials from the natural world, working with their form, and engaging the user the common desk is transformed!

Working with our friends at Wood From the Hood, we brought the client in to look at the many slabs of urban forested timber until we found the perfect piece. This Black Walnut slab had great curves that would work in this L shape alcove. The areas curving away from the wall provide the perfect place for cords, and the leading edge is inviting and engaging for the user.

We chose to integrate the desk and the windows, bringing light and views of the woods into the work space. The front leg of the desk is done waterfall style. Cracks in the slab received beautiful “bow ties” and voids were filled with epoxy. The end result is a space that makes work seem like vacation.
