Small But Mighty
The classic South Minneapolis bungalow is not know for expansive kitchens. They frequently have three or more doorways, making the flow even more frustrating. This kitchen was extra small, and the heat for the room was a cast iron radiator located directly under the sink! Creativity was required to solve this one. We pulled on the talents of our local cabinet maker to craft some modified cabinets that could blend in with the original. Shallow cabinets to one side provide much needed storage and counter space.
Two niches cut into the wall brings light in from the side door and helps the space feel slightly larger. On the opposite side of the kitchen we deployed paint running at an angle up towards the tall fridge cabinet to draw the eye upwards and further the illusion of a larger room.
Salved tile, low VOC finishes, re-used cabinetry and locally sourced cabinets.
